Favorite Horror Movie week! Today, it’s James’ turn and it’s a 2 for 1 Iconic Faceoff!
Official Jason vs. Freddy Summary
It’s been nearly ten years since Freddy Krueger terrorized people in the dreams. The town’s folk want to keep him erased from their memory. Freddy still has one more plan on getting back to Elm Street.
He resurrects Jason Voorhees and sends him off to kill. The more bodies which fall to the ground, the strong in which Freddy becomes. This is until, Freddy realizes that Jason isn’t going to step aside easily, and must be taken down himself. — Written by Film_Fan IMDb.
The End of the Slasher Era
It’s the Favorite Horror Movie for GBM! For someone who was born in 87, I came around for the tail end to the best era of the Slasher genre. We only have one problem Biters. As a kid and teenager. I didn’t do horror.

I remember being a kid and going to Blockbuster. I would go out of my way to avoid the horror section after getting freaked out by one of the box covers. Then, I caught the end of Child’s Play while channel surfing.
I saw Chucky climbing the conveyor belt with his knife near the film’s climax. That was only to find him sitting in my Grandmother’s dining room a few days later. Needless to say, when it came to horror, I was not a fan.
But Why Freddy vs. Jason?
So why is my favorite the 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason? I was still avoiding the horror genre when this film came out. But by now, I knew who these icons were, though only in name.

I owe my love for Freddy, Jason, along with all big 80s slasher icons to this movie. It took me twenty years, but I finally worked up the nerve before seeing the full movie. Also, I probably never would have if not stumbling onto Kelly Rowland’s death scene beforehand.
Slash The Fear
As we all know, Freddy feeds on fear. So, when Kelly proceeded to mock the killer she made fun of his glove, his sweater. Kelly said he wasn’t scary. Her character was killed by Jason seconds later, but she was right.

Freddy wasn’t frightening. Freddy was funny. In less than two minutes, Kelly Rowland took away a two-decades-long power Krueger had on me. After that, I had to see this film from the beginning.
Epiphany Through Horror Movies
I think a lot of my love for this movie comes from it being my first actual monster movie. But more then that, I love the story. The narrative they came up with for these two to fight is enjoyable.

In general, slasher movies can be rather dull and formulaic. You know, the typical teens having sex, the monster shows up, and the last girl standing is the one killing the monster.
Lather rinse, repeat for every sequel after, but Freddy vs. Jason was different!
Sympathy For The Hockey Mask
When it comes to Freddy vs. Jason, I love them shaking up the format by having Freddy bring Jason back to regain his power. That is only to get all bent out of shape when Jason won’t stop.

I love the double edge sword when putting these two iconic figures together. This collision that it creates for the teens to spend all their energy running from the psycho in the hockey mask only to get killed by Freddy in their dreams.
Drug yourself not to dream about the Springwood slasher killer becomes a sitting duck for Jason. That’s what made this one, so fun for me. Both franchises have some memorable and creative kills. But the fact it was now a race just added to the stakes.
From A Not Horror Fan
In hindsight, I kind of regret waiting so long to give these horror icons a chance. Jason has become a favorite of mine to draw.

Freddy is a favourite one to quote from time to time. The quote I most use is mainly the jump rope girls’ song that ushered his arrival.
So, Biters, I want to know, are you team Freddy or team Jason?
