The Story Of The 19th Century Forgotten Cannibal

A subject that remains taboo to this day is cannibalism. Somehow serial killers that commit repetitive scenarios are unforgivable, but if we add cannibalism to their title, somehow, they become another kind of evil. But this one slipped through the cracks.

The Forgotten Ones

From murders to mass shootings, our history knows its fair share of serial killers. Many of them hope to reach the ultimate glory of having their name remembered, such as Ted Bundy and Richard Ramirez.

Over time, some slip through the cracks of history pages and become an afterthought. Some have minimal information about them and what they did is unknown to the public.

What Are Familiars According To Western Demonology

Familiar is a word that starts gaining popularity among new comers in witchery and the paranormal. The popularization of the word comes from pop culture but it has a quite ancient meaning.

Familiars, What Are They?

You may have heard of the term “familiar spirits” in paranormal shows like The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina or Supernatural, but this word is also mentioned nine times in The Bible. The first mention of this phrase is found in Leviticus 19:31

“Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.”

Starro The Conqueror Vs. Shuma-Gorath

Gothic Bite Magazine is a platform for all writers and we welcome the comic book world too! This week, two of the obscure characters from the Big 2 are going head to head in this fictional battle!

Round One Fight

After watching The Suicide Squad for the sixth time on HBO Max and Marvel Comics‘ What If…? on Disney+, I was pleasantly surprised to see two old-school comic characters. Starro the Conqueror and Shuma-Gorath.

Both titans are showing up, and it puts a smile on my face. Think about it, twenty years ago, Warner Bros and Disney wouldn’t think of putting these characters on the big screen.

The Man in the Walls of Buckingham Palace

We all have heard of stalkers, but how far back can we go? This time we are in the Victorian Era under a matriarch ruling of a famous queen.

The Badass English Queen

I’m sure everyone knows who Queen Victoria was. I mean, it isn’t called the Victorian Era for nothing. She was a badass who used herself as bait to catch an assassin, drank cocaine-wine, and practically invented the sext.

So, one could she deserved a nemesis with the same larger-than-life stature. Edward Jones went above and beyond typical stalker levels, not just following her around and watching her from the shadows. No, he literally lived inside the walls of Buckingham Palace!

Be Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees For A Day

For most of us, when we watch slasher horror movies, it is for fun. We love the adrenaline. We move on after the movie but some fall in love with the career choice of Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees.

For our short-lived serial spree British killer Daniel Gonzalez, however, slasher flicks were life plans. When he watched horror movies like the A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th, he aspired to be the killer. He wanted to become Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees as a career.

They Killed Burt Gummer

Biters, it’s time for an aftershock. Quite a few months back, I did a review on the 90’s cult classic Tremors.

*** SPOILER ALERT! ***

It’s All About Burt Gummer

This article will not be a film review on the sequels but more of a tribute to the film’s breakout character Burt Gummer.

If this intro has not tipped my hand already, major spoiler alert for Tremors Shrieker Island.

Last night I queued up Netflix and saw a new tremors film had come out, so naturally, I had to watch it. This film hit all the familiar beats I know and love from this franchise, but it also did something I never expected and shook me to my core. They killed Burt Gummer.

The Witch’s Corner with L.A. Maciel

Welcome to our new weekly segment with L.A. Maciel and The Witch’s Corner! Here, you’ll find answer to questions about witchcraft you never thought about before!

A Witch’s Introduction

There’s a common phrase amongst writers that are writing about ourselves is difficult. I would have to agree. And it’s not just the concept of feeling narcissistic in this case.

It’s about self-preservation. You see, I am a witch. Well, I’m a pantheist pagan with animistic leanings, but I still practice witchcraft in one of its many forms. And this reality can cause problems.

Anneliese Michel The Possession

Gothic Bite Magazine is diving into the demonic possession world of Catholicism and Christianity. We are studying the cases in history and this is what Kendra Hale found…

A Demon Possession

Everyone in some way shape or form has an image of what a demon or possession is. Whether through movies or TV, books or podcasts; they can be found in a variety of mediums.

Maybe your knowledge of demons and possession are more faith based, whispers in the church or just in passing conversations. Whatever the case may be, one truth is this. Possessions are not new discussions and have been around far longer than they have been documented.

Why Is 666 The Number Of The Beast

What numbers do we think about when we hear the word ‘devil’ or ‘evil?’ 666. But why is 666 the number of the Beast, and what does it mean? How far back are we going?

666 In Pop Culture

Why is 666 the number of the beast? The number 666 goes back a while, but we also use it to represent something negative, such as the Beast in today’s world. Often when houses or buildings have 666 addresses, they have a lower price—people associate, like the number 13, a bad reputation.

Each Step Of Catholic Possession

When working on my new novel series, I thought with a certification in demonology, I could write it without a sweat. But, it turns out that possessions go more profound than we thought. Welcome to Catholic-based possessions.

The Warnings

Each step of Catholic possession is coming, but first, we must put some warning!

Trigger Warnings: Mental Illness | Physical Abuse | Mental Abuse | Belief | Religion.

Note here that we are talking about Christianity and Catholic possessions.

With that said, consider yourself warned, and let’s dive in!

When Possession History Begins

In the Old Testament from The Bible, there is a mention of King Saul, who states that an evil spirit tormented him (1 Samuel 16:14.)

However, this seems to be outside of him and not something coming from within. Moreover, the Catholic Encyclopaedia is not keen on the idea of King Saul’s possession because it was a torment and not a proof of direct possession.

The Ups And Downs Of Found-Footage

My favorite horror movie genre is found footage. It’s like I can’t get enough of that style, and I know what many people think, it’s cheap, and it’s cheesy and bad. But, many underrated movies are gaining popularity in the genre. Here are some!

The Found Footage Debate

Many of us believe that the found footage style began with The Blair Witch Project in 1999. Then you have those who argue that Cannibal Holocaust from 1980 is the first of its kind. However, maybe some of us were wrong. The ups and downs of found-footage started in the new millennium for sure!

*** Before we go any further, let’s remind ourselves of a great tool to avoid trauma while watching horror movies: Does The Dog Die ***

While Cannibal Holocaust was part found footage, it wasn’t all found footage. However, maybe they were the first to exploit the marketing method of asking their actors to hide to reinforce the “true story” part. The director was also dragged to court and had to pay a fee for animal cruelty.

Reviewing Horror Movies And The Subgenres

Horror is a vast genre. But, sadly, it rarely gets the recognition it deserves. Too often, critiques disregard horror, and yet, the fandom can’t have enough.

The Beginning of Horror

Reviewing horror movies and the subgenres is quite a task. But here we go!

Horror goes back centuries when folklore and legends were born. Creatures such as ghosts, vampires, demons, witches, and underwater monsters existed well before writing about them. So, I guess we can say in a way, horror is in our DNA.

The Social Function Of Serial Killers

Returning from a break I decided to come back to my roots with serial killer obsessions. What do they think and how do they proceed is what this article is all about.

Social Construct

*** Note: the article is about serial killers with psychopathy tendencies.

Honestly, what do each one of us serve in society? Are we like the hardworking bees, all assigned duties or work assignments to make the hive grow, survive.

It’s hard to believe that we serve an integral part of society with our mundane day-to-day interactions, but we do.

Did You Know Death Was An Angel

We often associate Death with the Grim Reaper or a dark silhouette. However, its origin and appearance are quite different than we know, and the name is Azrael.

The Origin of Death

Did you know Death was an angel? Having a being the representative of Death is part of many cultures, but here we are focusing on Death’s relatively old portrayal. It is part of Islam, Jewish, and Catholic faiths.

In Norse, the goddess Hel is the Underworld ruler and is, by definition, Death. In Greek as well as Roman mythology, Thanatos is the one to bring Death upon humans. Those are the bearer of the end of life and the beginning of the afterlife.
