At Gothic Bite Magazine we love welcoming new patients to become part of our asylum. We question them and learn about them. It doesn’t matter what creative field they are part of because they’re our patient now. This week, we welcome Clara Winter
Patient Name: Clara Winter
I’m Clara Winter, and I grew up in the publishing world and attended acting/art school. I grew up in a small northern French town in Québec, Canada. Determined to make it into the big leagues. I learned English independently. I had Stephen King, Oliver Bowden, Charlaine Harris, Jeaniene Frost, Katie Aiken Ritter and Bernard Cornwell as my ‘literary teachers in writing.
Odd to most people, I became a bookworm and developed an antisocial personality disorder my whole life. I fought many stereotypes and misconceptions from the outside world her entire life. After all, horror is hard to defend to other parents when your daughter is only six-year-old.

We know the word werewolf, but the technical term is lycanthrope, and the accurate clinical term is lycanthropy. But what does that mean?
What Is Lycanthropy, And Where Did It Come From
The delusion that someone must metamorphose into an animal or be one is a psychiatric syndrome. The scientific community calls it Clinical Lycanthropy.
The term itself leads to the affliction of physically morphing into a wolf. Of course, it is impossible and linked to the paranormal phenomenon that is a werewolf. However, it is, to this day, still a disorder despite its rarity.

I have always loved the werewolves. Something about being so powerful has always struck me.
My First Screen Experience
My first dab with the beasts was seeing them on screen, and I have to say as a little kid, I was awestruck by the transformation from human to werewolf.
The first movie I saw that dealt with was the old white and black, The Wolf Man. You have to remember this was the late 70s so old black and white movies were still showing.

Werewolves are just myths, legends and folklore. They were created to scare people and be fearful stories around campfires.
Nobody truly believes in their existence. It would be quite ridiculous to do so, right?
Well, there are people that are quite sure they have seen the werewolves of today.

Werewolves have been part of human legends and folklore for many centuries. They have encountered many obstacles throughout their existence in our stories.
Lady Romance vs Dark Romance
From undergoing the horror of the witch trials to being compared to hell creatures, they’ve endured and thrived. However, they finally did find a place where they are loved and desired… the paranormal romance world.
The romance genre by Harlequin Publishing, often seen as “eau de rose,” had many haters leaving women reading those books being mocked. Those books revolved around fictional history about a poor unfortunate damsel in distress waiting for her hero.

When witch trials happened werewolves became part of it. Many witches thought to be werewolves worked for the devil. One of them was Peter Stumpp.

The werewolves were born of legends and folklore back in the Ancient Times and survived through all the centuries, wars and time. Throughout history, professors and scientists have discovered records of witch trials, and through those, werewolves.

When the Dark Ages ended, slowly, the witch hunt started and it led to werewolf trials too.
The Dark Ages Ended
Back in the late Middle Ages and early Modern period, witches were being hunted down. It didn’t matter if it were true or not. If someone didn’t like their neighbor, they could be accused of witchcraft.
That started the witch trial time period. And like that wasn’t enough, werewolves emerged. And the werewolf trials begun and that is a horror story.

Not many gothic cartoon out there but Hotel Transylvania is a franchise Alexa Wayne fell in love with!
When I first watched Hotel Transylvania, I quickly fell in love with the story even though 3D is not my cup of tea. The characters, the originality and the breath of fresh air the subject brought was fascinating.
Despite my obsession with Vlad The Impaler and Dracula, I was able to look pass that and fall for Mavis and her uncle Frankenstein… then came the series on June 25th, 2017… my jaw dropped.

Travel the country sides of Europe and you are bound to see a castle. To date there are over ten thousand known castles in Europe and Asia.
Many of the oldest castles in the world are in Germany. With age comes history and not necessarily a pleasant history at that.
Europe’s Middle Ages were plagued with turmoil. The Crusades, witch-hunts (and werewolf hunts) vampire hysteria and war torn through the old world. Leaving in its wake tears in the fabric between this world and the next.
