Northern Norway’s Witch Trials

On Bookstagram of late last year, a new book was advertised and caught my attention. The book is loosely based on the true story of the Vardo Witch Trials.

About The Book

The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave takes the readers to the island of Vardo. We are pulled into the very experience the witch trials caused in Vardø in the year 1621.

Through the eyes and mind of Maren, we see the stories of the women of Vardø. We also share the Commander’s wife’s point of view, Ursa, who is responsible for sending the authorities to the village.

Witch’s Corner: A Brief History of the Devil, Demons, and Witchcraft

Devil, demons, and witchcraft are three things that we absolutely enjoy over at Gothic Bite, and our amazing witch, L.A. Maciel, is tackling the overall subject!

Ah…The Good Ole Burning Times!

The silvery light of the full moon shines down on a circle of nude people, dancing hand-in-hand around a bonfire. From the flames comes a being with the head of a horned goat on a man’s body, where its feet should be are hooves…

This is a typical scene when you look into the history of the Witch Hunts of Europe or if you’re part of the Neopagan movement, The Burning Times

The Blair Witch Is Back With A Vengeance

In 1999 a new genre of a horror movie made its entrance starting with The Blair Witch Project. Its prime marketing scheme selling it as a found footage inspired many movies ever since, and now it’s back.

Burkittsville Maryland Home of the Blair Witch

The Blair Witch is back with a vengeance but!

It is important to note that the town of Burkittsville in the American State of Maryland is real, but it is not where the movie happens when filmed. After the release of The Blair Witch Project in 1999, many fans harassed people from the village of 200 inhabitants to find the forest and more about the legend.

The Bell Witch

The Bell Witch or Bell Witch Haunting is a legend from Southern American folklore, centered on the 19th-century Bell family of northwest Robertson County, Tennessee. — Wikipedia

Who or What is it?

There’s much controversy about the Bell Witch Cave. Some say she is the daughter of an abusive father. Some say she is an outside entity that came to torment the Bell Family. There are even other reports that the Bell Witch was a male slave killed by Bell in the past.

The most common telling of it is that the Bell Witch was a neighbor girl whose name was Kate Batts. Often reports show the girl to quarrel with John Bell’s daughter Betsy who’s engagement was to Joshua Gardner—later broke up in 1821.

Gothic Bite Magazine is proud to present our third anthology to our amazing followers and wonderful readers!

The Gothic Grimoire Anthology is all about the darkest the paranormal can offer from immortals to hauntings, and a grimoire ties all.

The Making of a Grimoire
