The Vampire Disease. Many people heard of it but do people really know what it is? Or what it means to the people who live with it? I have the illness at a mild level. Here’s how it goes!

Beware, Vampires Are Out Of The Coffin! Really, Read The Warning!

This article contains graphic descriptions of the medical condition widely spread as ‘Vampire Disease’ and its symptoms. The following article is an in-depth dive into the illness and what it implies, and what it is like for people like me to live with this condition.

If you are sensitive to medical tools, treatment, and physical descriptions of diseases, I recommend skipping this article. Because the illness can relate to mental disorders, I also recommend ensuring all readers are comfortable with the nervous system and brain illnesses.

A Real Vampire Burial

It was customary to bury them differently than people. Back in the day, when populations believed in witches, werewolves and vampires, one was never safe from gossip or vampires.

Vampires In All History

The word vampire might have had various meanings throughout human history, but it did travel the world. Since the dawn of time, creatures with mortal bites have made it into legends and folklores. But what about a real vampire burial?

Find in all civilisations known to humankind, even those that never met, a vampire-like creature made it into history.

Mystical Menagerie – Unmasking The Undead

History has plenty of accounts to share when it comes to real-life vampires.

The Blood Countess

We start with The Blood Countess, the original vampire, Elizabeth Báthory. So much so that she is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most productive female serial killer in history. A Hungarian Countess, Bathory is infamous…

With a reported six hundred murders under her belt, I daresay no woman will unseat her throne anytime soon. It is believed that, besides Vlad Tepes, she is the other main inspiration for Count Dracula.

Living The Goth Life At Thirty-Five

We often hear growing up that we are going through a phase. We hear that nothing is the end of the world. But some found their paths young.

An Unusual Childhood

Living the Goth life at thirty-five years old is not easy. Growing up, I was in many different courses, all the arts you can think about and even model. Like most children of my age, I also watched the Walt Disney movies reborn from the 90s. The Lion King was my favorite…it dealt with death.

Because my grandparents raised me, my view of life was different than others. I grew up Catholic/Christian and went to church every Sunday. I was in the choir and the church group. I participated in extra curriculum activity the group had in association with my school.

Vampires Are Monsters Too

GBM keeps going with the Favorite Monster Week and it wouldn’t be complete without vampires, right?

The Beginning

It is hard to say where Vampire folklore began, there are myths of creatures similar to vampires all the way back to Mesopotamia, approximately 3100 B.C.

These are known as the precursors of the vampiric legends. The vampire that we know today originated almost exclusively from 18th century southeastern Europe.

Vlad The Impaler - Dracula Untold

Vlad The Impaler An Introduction To Horror

When thinking about the most horrific names in human history, we can think of quite a few without any effort. But when thinking about torture, fewer come to mind. But when the word blood and Romania surface, there’s only one name that transcends them all, Vlad the Impaler. So, here is Vlad the Impaler, an introduction to horror.

The Heart of Horror

The origins of Vlad the Impaler is not one everyone knows. Not many people wish to search for the darkest minds of human history.

I am one of those ‘freaks’ that devours history from people who spread terror most uniquely and strategically, most preferably, centuries ago. And, Vlad the Impaler an introduction to horror is the right place to start.

Nosferatu Redeems Dracula As A Vampire

In 1922, a new vampire face took over the silver screen despite Dracula’s heir denying its right to enter the lore. But, nothing could stop Count Orlok to become a face of horror.

Nosferatu As A Vampire

When F.W. Murnau presented the idea of the movie to Bram Stoker’s estate, they refused the right to the movie.

Based upon the famous Gothic novel named Dracula, even Stoker’s heir decided to take legal action following the release of the movie despite the refusal. In other words, Nosferatu redeems Dracula as a vampire.

Alleged Vampire Witch

A vampire is a being from folklore that subsists by feeding on the vital force of the living. In European folklore, vampires were undead beings that often visited loved ones and caused mischief or deaths in the neighborhoods they inhabited while they were alive. — Wikipedia

Debunking History

Throughout human history, the word vampire spread around the world since the dawn of humankind. Legends and myths from different civilizations nowhere near connected, share the same type of creature. Originally meaning: forceful bite, in my cultures, the creature itself seems to share common grounds. Its number one being the taste for blood.

We can blame the existence of vampires on the lack of knowledge around the deceased. Often people that were dead were accused of vampirism. Recently deceased people would show blood around their mouths, bloating, blush, and growth of hair and nails.

Greek, Polish, Egyptian…

The vampire has gone by many different names. In Greek, they are called Vrykolakas. In Czech upir, Upeer. The Polish called these creatures of the night Wampir. Myths and legends the world over have given these creatures name since the beginning of time.

Creatures that take the blood of the living to survive dated back into Greek Mythology. Also, people rising from the dead to walk among the living. Well, we need only go back to the Bible itself for such legends.

Great New England Vampire Panic

Along with all my other quirks and unique aspirations I am working towards a doctorate in American History. The real history of America is not something read in textbooks and vampires are a part of it.

Supernatural Superstitions

Often it’s hidden from sight. The victors write history; the ugliness washed away. I found this tidbit of history and I thought my vampire fans out there might enjoy.

In the early years of American history, New England was full of superstitions about the supernatural. The church spread fears of evil which lead to the witch trials so famously diluted in our history books. Vampires were rumored to roam New England’ rural communities by night with reports documented as early as 1793.
