Quite a few years ago, I got an Awen tattoo on my index finger. When I returned to work a week later, a fellow employee—who was a Christian and was kind to me (before this incident)—asked what it stood for. 

When I told them it was a symbol for inspiration and divine illumination for poets, writers, artists, and creatives, they asked about God [Christian God] and what I believed. She interrogated me, and I felt I couldn’t be honest, so I said whatever she wanted me to say, and I’ve been trying to hide my tattoos ever since.

A Witch’s Introduction

There’s a common phrase amongst writers that are writing about ourselves is difficult. I would have to agree. And it’s not just the concept of feeling narcissistic in this case.

It’s about self-preservation. You see, I am a witch. Well, I’m a pantheist pagan with animistic leanings, but I still practice witchcraft in one of its many forms. And this reality can cause problems.

Death Is Not Evil

Okay. So I want to apologize to our subscribers. Not only have I not written an article in a while. Sorry, life happened! But also I’m about to go into a death-related rant. I apologize. On with the rant!

The Death Expert Is Back

Now, as our usual readers know, I am Gothic Bite Magazine‘s Death Expert, which means I write articles about death and whatnot. However, it has come to my attention that the media: television, movies, books, among other platforms, love to make anything related to death, evil. 

And, as a Death Positivity Advocate, this irritates me. These platforms and services are why people in this part of the world, i.e., Western society, have death anxiety.

I’m from a small town in the middle of the redwood forest, three hours south of the Oregon border, which is why I’m an avid hiker and nature lover.

I was told at a young age that I would have been a SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome statistic. It is why I’m a Death Positive Advocate. Death has always been an inspiration to me, and it has influenced me in my everyday life.
