At Gothic Bite Magazine we love welcoming new patients to become part of our asylum. We question them and learn about them. It doesn’t matter what creative field they are part of because they’re our patient now. This week, we welcome Ava Lynn Wood!
Patient Name: Ava Lynn Wood
Ava is an insomniac who writes to calm the voices. When the voices get too loud, stories are formed.
Ava was born and raised in Texas. Spending most of her years far from the city, she learned at an early age to create new worlds and characters as a form of entertainment. It was her cure to loneliness as an only child and led to her career as a writer today.

Now living in Florida, Ava enjoys the fresh sea air and summer storms. She believes there is nothing more beautiful than an evening summer light show and finds solace in writing while the rain falls outside.

Married to the love of her life, Ava shares two beautiful daughters and a multitude of sweet fur babies with her husband, Mike. Their marriage is the perfect “North-meets-South” pairing as Mike spent his youth in frigid upstate New York.

THE QUESTIONNING!
ARIELLE LYON: When did you find out you would want to write novels?
AVA LYNN WOOD: I was nineteen when I thought I might want to be a writer, but I didn’t really put the pen in motion until a few years after that.

AVA LYNN WOOD: There are no actual “rules” when writing the paranormal. You can let your imagination be your guide.

ARIELLE LYON: When writing about the paranormal, do you do research, and if so, how far do you go with your research?
AVA LYNN WOOD: I try to find the “norms” for specific creatures and use the points that help move my story along.

AVA LYNN WOOD: Voice de la Muerta because it focuses so much on overcoming our pasts.
ARIELLE LYON: Do you believe in the paranormal, by that I mean in hauntings, that there are creatures out in the wild we still don’t know the existence of?
AVA LYNN WOOD: I think there are plenty of things out there that are yet unseen. Faith comes in believing in what we can’t see.

ARIELLE LYON: What made you decide to be self-published?

AVA LYNN WOOD: I’m a very impatient person and knew waiting for a response from an agent and then a publishing house would take much longer than I was willing to wait.
