Gothic Bite Magazine is proud to promote various indie artists. But this time, we’re interviewing our Video Game Expert, Edward Hale!
Edward Hale
My Name is Edward Hale, I’m an avid gamer, comic collector and so many other nerd troupes that’s it’s not even funny.
I’ve been a gamer since as far back as the Atari, and have studied the medium since I could find source material to read about.

I’m no expert, but I know what I enjoy, and my forty-four years on this planet have helped me refine my enjoyment in gaming.
The Passion Of Gaming
ALEXA WAYNE (A.W.): When did you find out you would become an avid gamer?
EDWARD HALE: Well, I started gaming on the Atari, but didn’t really get into it until I got the Nintendo Entertainment System. I enjoyed that system quite a bit but really got deep into it with the launch of the Super Nintendo.

A.W.: Your reviews on GBM really show your passion for video games. But, let’s ask which console is your favorite, and why?
EDWARD HALE: I’m a Playstation guy, through and through. Don’t get me wrong, I love all consoles and their respective libraries, but Playstation is where I make my home.

I enjoy it because of the exclusive series mostly, they seem to get all the best ones, and that keeps me coming back for more.
A.W.: When you choose to play a video game, are there any specific characteristics that you are looking for?
EDWARD HALE: I’m looking at the graphics obviously, but the story is what will pull me in. The gameplay mechanics are essential too, I don’t want the same game I’ve played twenty times with a different skin.

A.W.: What is most important to you when playing a video game?
EDWARD HALE: The overall package and enjoyment I get from playing it. The source material is also essential, I’m a huge Star Wars fan, so I will obviously look at any new Star Wars titles coming down the line, same with Batman.
The Horror Settings
A.W.: Because we’re a Gothic website, which horror video games are your favorite and why?
EDWARD HALE: My favorite horror game or series of all time has to be Silent Hill, specifically, Silent Hill 2.
I’m a huge horror buff and played all the Resident Evil titles, but I needed more actual horror in the game. Silent Hill gave me that in spades. It was creepy, it made me jump, it was a real Horror game.

A.W.: When playing a video game focused on horror, what are you looking for, and what do you expect?
EDWARD HALE: I expect a creepy atmosphere, a compelling story, and something that will stay with me well after finishing the game.

A.W.: Do you believe in the paranormal, by that I mean in hauntings, that there are creatures out in the wild we still don’t know?
EDWARD HALE: Yes I do, I believe there is all manner of things out there that we can neither see nor explain. I’ve had my fair share of paranormal interactions, so I am a firm believer in all things paranormal.

A.W.: Which horror movie or series’ franchises do you think to deserve a video game build after them?
EDWARD HALE: Well, given the modern state of games, almost all worthwhile films have been made into games. Friday the 13th, Predator, Alien, you name it.

Hell, there is another title, Dead by Daylight, that has incorporated the Movie Monsters into it, allowing players to play as Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Ghostface, and quite a few others.
What id like to see is a new property created in games, then brought over to the film side of things and translated, actually continued there.
What Keeps Interest
A.W.: What is it about video games that have you so passionate about it?
EDWARD HALE: Well, the overall package really brings me in. I love a good story, I come from a background of books and comics, as well as films, so I really expect something to blow my mind when I put down the sixty bucks for a title.

There have been games throughout my life that made me wish I was in that world, allowing me to escape whatever is going on in my normal life. Honestly, I think that’s what all gamers are looking for, and a great story to pull them through it.
A.W.: What can readers look forward to in the video game world in 2020-2021?
EDWARD HALE: We have the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X before the year’s end.
Playstation is killing it right now with a ton of exclusive content like The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima, and they aim to do the same in the next generation with the forthcoming PS5 exclusives like Spider Man: Miles Morales and others.
ALEXA WAYNE: Because…CHEWIE IS NOT AN A**HOLE!!!

Xbox, well, I’m keeping my eye on them, they are making some “interesting” choices with their next console, ones I don’t know will hold up too well in the future, but we shall see.
Nintendo is doing their thing, with some big titles coming out for the Switch in the next year or two like Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime 4 being the top on my own list for them. A whole new console generation is coming, so it’s about to get interesting.
