GBM Interview Author Amelia K. Oliver

At Gothic Bite Magazine we love welcoming new patients to become part of our asylum. We question them and learn about them. It doesn’t matter what creative field they are part of because they’re our patient now. This week, we welcome Indie Author Amelia K. Oliver!

Patient Name: Amelia K. Oliver

Hi everyone, I’m Amelia, a British indie author. I live with my husband and son in a small town by the sea. Writing is my passion and my obsession; almost daily, I get new story ideas.

That’s why I made a second pen name who will only release short stories. I’m not good at writing about myself, sorry.

The Questioning

ALEXA WAYNE (A.W.): When did you find out you would want to write novels?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: I knew I wanted to write when I was young, but it was July last year that I thought about it seriously. I was helping other authors, and one of them pushed me to write my own, so I did.

A.W.: Which genre would you think you write, and what category is best to describe your writing?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: I write a multi-genre but mostly paranormal. I have done reverse harem, Menage, horror, dystopian. I love them all. The central theme is romance.

A.W.: You mentioned to me your work, all set in paranormal or Gothic settings, would you let our readers know why you are more attracted to that genre?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: I’ll talk about my third book, Blaze. Its set hundreds of years into the future, London is a wasteland and humans have mutated, gaining extraordinary powers and abilities.

Those who didn’t have immunity to the Panda virus turned into zombies. They call them Panda. I love all things apocalyptic and zombies. I wanted to create a story that I would want to read, one that would have me at the edge of my seat. The novel Blaze was born, and I just adore it!

A.W.: When writing about paranormal, do you do research, and if so, how far do you go with your analysis?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: No, no research. I use my imagination. I’m a huge superhero, horror, and sci-fi fan. I use what I’ve seen and twist it to suit my tastes.

A.W.: What is most important to you when writing your novels?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: The most important thing to me is that the story is something new. Something that hasn’t been done before.

A.W.: Which authors influenced your writing?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: Oh, boy. There are so many. Colleen Gleason, Lara Adrian, Eileen Troemel, BC Morgan, Serena Nova, Tamara White, Jacquelyn Faye, and so many, many more.

A.W.: Which of your novels is your favorite, and why is it your favorite?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: Its a hard one, but its gotta be Blaze. Its got everything I love about books, zombies, magic, plot twists, bad-arse FMC. I love it.

A.W.: Do you believe in the paranormal, by that I mean in hauntings, that there are creatures out in the wild we still don’t know the existence of?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: Oh, absolutely! All legends must come from somewhere, right?

A.W.: What was your reaction when you learned a publisher wanted you as part of their authors? / What made you decide to be self-published?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: I never approached a publisher. I’m not sure why. Everyone I know in the author’s community is an indie author. So I went with that, and I’m glad I did. The community, the fans, they’re amazing.

A.W.: What sets you apart from other paranormal and Gothic authors?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: Hmm, I’m not sure. I’m British, does that count? Also, I like to twist what’s already been done. When you read my work, you’re reading something you wouldn’t have read before.

A.W.: What can readers look forward to from Amelia K. Oliver in 2020?

AMELIA K. OLIVER: So much! Currently, I’m working on a short story series with angels and demons. There are Harpies, a Basilisk, a Minotaur, grim reapers, angel of life, hell hound, a giant.

There is even a lightning elemental. It’s a mixed bag! There will be a continuation to Blaze, not a second book, but further into the future.

There will be some co-writes, my other pen name, Nova Kain will have some darker stories coming out. I don’t plan ahead so that anything could happen.

If you enjoyed this interview, come back each week for other interviews with authors, editors and more! We love welcoming new patients! If you are a creative yourself, go to our CONTACT section and send us an email to become part of our asylum!

Until next time…enjoy the bite!
