Vampire Hunter D

Vampire Hunter D is one of those series that by the title of the show it can be guessed what the show itself, and its main character for that matter, are all about from the beginning.

Top of the Food Chain

In a world where nuclear fallout caused the Nobility, or vampires, to take their place in the top of the food chain for years. The rest of the paranormal beings came out to play, and the race of humans set to constant fear.

It seemed like extinction was the name of the game for humans, but variables such as the overindulgent greed of the beautiful and cruel Nobility, the fierce determination of the frontier folk and the rise of Spectral slayers that have arisen is changing that game to the side of humanity. D is one of those fighting against the tides, and the story revolves around him.

D is very special in this barren world around him; D is a Dhampir, the mixed-race child of a vampire father and human mother, the ideal vampire hunter.

He is known and whispered in the bars for his skill and grace while being feared and despised for his mixed lineage: born of both races but belonging to neither.

Usually underestimated by his opponents, which leads to many moments worthy of a good laugh, D possesses surprising power and resourcefulness having most of the strengths of the Nobility and only mild levels of their common weaknesses.

All About D

One key feature to D is his left hand. A being called Left Hand is on his hand, and it is an entity unto itself. A full personality and quite the mouth full of wit.

Not much is known about the origin of Left Hand, Mashira being his real name, or about how he became joined with D. What can be seen in the series though is his loyalty and how powerful he is, shown in the times he saves not only himself but D throughout the show.

His parents hinted in the story as being Dracula and the beautiful Mina. While many aspects go along with this story, I leave them to you. Isn’t discovering secrets more fun on your own anyway?

The story follows D as he makes his way through the world helping and killing along the way, all the while discovering if there is truth to the rumors of his birth.

All D All Vampire

Vampire Hunter D has spanned the mediums the spectrum over as it has touched almost everyone from a comic book, manga, video game, anime, and feature films. It is a beloved story by those who have followed it, and I have the novels as well that are beautifully written exploring D’s world.
