Here we go again readers, and I am sorry for the wait. We jump back into the land of R.L. Stine again just in time for everyone to start disappearing.
Literally.
In this issue of Goosebumps, we find out that our reflection is not always what it seems, and that giving in to temptation sometimes comes with dire consequences. Let’s dive in, shall we?
Original 1993 Summary
Disappearances Can Be Deadly
On Max’s birthday, he finds a sort of magic mirror in the attic. It can make him become invisible. So Max and his friends start playing now you see me, now you don’t.
Until Max realizes that he’s losing control. Staying invisible a little too long. Having a harder time coming back. Getting invisible is turning into a very dangerous game. The next time Max gets invisible, will it be… forever?
Now You See Me
In this issue of Goosebumps, we meet Max on his 12th birthday. He and his ten-year-old brother Noah, better known throughout the whole issue as Lefty, are getting prepared for all the guests to arrive.
We get to know a bit about the boys and their friends, the most important being Zack, Erin, and April. As the party winds down and Max and Lefty are left alone with Erin and April until they are picked up.
Of course, this means escaping boredom by heading upstairs to play on the Super Nintendo, only they never make it. Erin asks about a set of stairs and Max brings up the attic. Being curious, the kids go up to check it out and see what all they can find.

Thanks to the dog, they find a secret room with nothing in it but a mirror. The mirror has a small light attached to it, you know like on a fan, with a chain to turn the light on or off.
They soon discover when they pulled the chain, the one pulling it turns invisible, only to reappear when the light is turned off.
Fool Me Once, Shame On Me
At first, only Max is caught up in the mirror’s power. However, the other kids soon want to do the trick as well, and when his friend Zack finds out, it turns into a competition.
Who can stay invisible the longest? You see for however long someone is invisible; it takes them that long to come back once the light turned back off. Even worse Max and his friends start to feel off.

Max soon learns that something is wrong. His friends begin to act weird, and something is off. They keep wanting to turn invisible and for longer. Max is about to find out what is happening soon enough. However, I won’t spoil it for you dear readers. It is worth the read to find out just what is happening.
A Little Treat
For me this book by R.L. Stine was a treat, I remember the episode of this one in the TV series and it did an excellent job of staying to the book.
Full stars for me on this one reader, I did not expect the ending, and it was creepy. Enjoy boils and ghouls. You’re in for a scare!
