Gremlins - 1984

Remember Gremlins?

This movie was my childhood trauma. I was between three and five when I saw this movie for the first time.

Imagine a kid so excited that they get to watch a big kid movie with their teenaged Aunt for the first time.

The light went off and as Gizmo gets wet and monstrous things to start happening, out of nowhere a ball of fur comes flying over the couch landing on my stomach.

Guys, I was scared. I did not watch this movie again until I was twenty-five and my husband promised me that no rabbit feet would hurt me. I realized how silly it was.

The Summary

Miniature green monsters tear through the small town of Kingston Falls. Hijinks ensue as a mild-mannered bank teller releases these hideous loonies after gaining a new pet and violating two of three simple rules: No water, no food after midnight, and no bright light.

Hilarious mayhem and destruction in a town straight out of Norman Rockwell. So, when your washing machine blows up or your TV goes on the fritz, before you call the repair man, turn on all the lights and look under all the beds. ‘Cause you never can tell, there just might be a gremlin in your house. — Written by James Craver, IMDb

In China Town

So to be entirely honest this is a cheesy horror flick, I noticed this as I re-watched it. Long story short, a Father is looking for the perfect gift for his son. He stumbles across a shop in China Town and comes to find a cute furry creature known as the Mogwai.

Three simple rules to the creatures:

1. Don’t get it wet.
2. No exposure to bright light.
3. No feeding it after midnight.

Of course, all of these rules are broken and not only chaos, but hilarity ensues. At least this time around for me. Gremlins had the talents of Howie Mendel, Corey Feldman, and many others. The story was simple, but everything put together made sense and was much fun.

Cheesy And Good

I gave this one 8 out of 10 Bloody Cleavers though my inner child is distraught at me for that. Yes, it is a cheesy movie, but it is one that has charm. I am not watching it again though. I leave that to you dear readers; it is all for you.
