The Mangler Review

When the Friday Creep Night was on at my house growing up, The Mangler was on the list of movies to watch.

Written by Stephen King, I had to give it a try. I didn’t know what it would come out as at the time since I never read the short story from the King of Horror. When I put the movie on, I didn’t know what to expect. The Mangler is a short story and a nineties’ movie.

The Summary

When an accident involving a folding machine at an old laundry occurs, detective John Hunton decides to investigate. What he finds is the owner of the laundry, Bill Gartley.

Meanwhile, the folding machine has acquired a taste for the flesh of human beings, but is there more to Bill Gartley than meets the eye, and does he know what monster hides behind the machine? — Written by Action Dan, IMDb

The Machine

When I first watched the machine, a few short years after it came out, I thought it would be amazing because Stephen King first wrote it. I put the movie on, and despite the look reminding me of the eighties, a story emerged worth watching.

I have to admit though that it does have its great moments and the work of Robert Englund is great. He was an excellent choice for the movie and fitted the role amazingly.

The hungry human-eating folding machine has that vintage look that adds a creepy feel to the company’s working place. Almost steampunk-ish, looking straight from the Industrial Revolution, the machine looks dangerous and hellish just like it’s supposed to in that type of environment.

Thoughts

The Mangler is signed Stephen King as you can recognize his twisted mind with that one haunted object. The look of the machine is incredible, but some scenes are predictable. Overall though, I would like to say that it’s worth a watch. I enjoy those types of movies, and I recommend it.
