What starts as an exciting trip to Egypt slowly turns into a twisted tale of terror lost in the labyrinth of an ancient tomb as we join our children in this installment of Goosebumps.

Original 1993 Summary

Gabe just got lost–in a pyramid. One minute, his crazy cousin Sari was right ahead of him in the pyramid tunnel.

The next minute, she’d disappeared. But Gabe isn’t alone. Someone else is in the pyramid, too. Someone. Or some thing. Gabe doesn’t believe in the curse of the mummy’s tomb. But that doesn’t mean that the curse isn’t real. Does it?

The Egyptology

Now, this one jumps a few books putting us to number five in the series, but fear not ghouls and guys; we shall make a quick pass back at the stories missed. As this month is the Month of The Mummy monster, I am reviewing The Curse Of The Mummy’s Tomb by R.L. Stine. Let us light our torches and embark, shall we?

In this novel, we follow Gabe as he and his parents are visiting Egypt for their family vacation slash business trip. Gabe’s Uncle Ben is an archeologist working on a previously undiscovered part of a burial chamber, and they are set to meet up with him for a tour.

After a big day of sightseeing, he and his parents head back to their hotel, and our story begins. A call starts the ball rolling in this one as his parents discover they must leave on the next flight to go elsewhere in Egypt to conduct their refrigerator businesses. They offer to call Ben to see if he can watch over Gabe while they work, luckily he is free.

The only issue to this is the fact that Gabe will not be the only child on the dig site, Ben’s daughter Sari who is the same age as Gabe will be there, a 12-year self-proclaimed genius.

Gabe doesn’t quite get along with Sari, but anything is better than talking refrigerator units right? Over dinner, Gabe discovers more about the dig, including the curse that one of the workers has warned his uncle about earlier.

Weird things begin to happen and soon not even Gabe’s lucky mummy hand he got for a steal of two dollars will help him. After all, there is only so much a hand can do when you are locked in a maze of catacomb tunnels struggling to see the sky again.

It becomes even harder when you are most certainly not alone, and someone is seeking company in the afterlife!

Goosebumps In The Future!

Readers beware, this one promises a scare. Not just the creepy crawling kind either. While a bit rushed at times for me, this was a pleasant reread and earns a seven out of ten for me.

I look forward to dipping back in the Goosebumps pool soon enough; I seem to have developed a taste for Monster Blood…
